Molly didn't really want to add to her mother's anxiety or raise her blood pressure; she didn't want to be another gray hair. It gave her no pleasure to complicate her mother's life. She was wiling to be a go-along when she could. (14)
Molly wants to play baseball, not softball - but this is complicated, and causes her mother stress. Should Molly still push to be on a baseball team? When is it appropriate to complicate someone else's life for your own good?

Our all-school read is The Girl Who Threw Butterflies by Mick Cochrane. Molly Williams, the main
character, is a middle schooler who throws one heck of a knuckleball. Molly tries out for the boys baseball team, and what happens next shows who Molly is as a person, a student, a daughter, a friend and an athlete.
All students are asked to read the book this summer. If you did not order a book through our school order, it's not too late! You have a few options:
- Purchase a book directly from The Book Shop of Beverly Farms - they have additional copies in stock.
- Borrow a book from the Middle School main office. Just stop by, sign a copy out, and when you return it, cross your name off the list.
- Purchase a paper or audio copy from Amazon.
- Borrow one from a friend.
- Check out a copy from the public library.
Starting next week, the week of June 30, we will have a weekly discussion question posted about the book. Those students who participate in the discussion will be entered into a drawing at the start of school. You will be entered into the drawing once for each time you respond to the question or another person's post - with up to three entries per week (but you can certainly respond more times than that if you would like!).
At the end of the summer, 10 students' names will be drawn to receive a free burrito from Chipotle in North Beverly (thank you to Chipotle for their support!). So: the more you read and participate, the more likely you are to win!
